| The characteristics of its geographical situation and the singularity of its relations with the close solid masses make territory of the National park of the Jewel cases an original link of the alpine chain. Dévoluy, Vercors, Belledonne, Queyras are with range of sight over the valleys that it côtoie. A biogeographic crossroads The territory of the Jewel cases is located at the west of the axis of the alpine chain, watershed between the basins of the Rhone and Pô. The transverse collars of Montgenèvre and Larche allow the passage on one side the other of the chain. The biological connections by the peaks and the collars are at the origin of the distribution of the animal and vegetable species. Their study made it possible to note position of the geographical and biological crossroads between the internal and external Alps and the Alps of the South and North. The collars Cross-High, of Bayard and Lautaret mark the beginning of the zone of transition between the Alps from the South and the Alps from North. The Park is also a zone of contact between the solid masses of Vanoise in north, of Mercantour in the south, Queyras and Piedmont in the east, Vercors and Dévoluy in the west. The patrimonial richness of the National park of the Jewel cases is supported by this position of biogeographic crossroads. The valleys of the Durance and Drac, the basin of Trièves are used as transportation to the men, axis routes of migration to the birds and allow the increase of the southernmost flora. Two ways of penetration are formed at the southern end of the alpine furrow (depression between the intermediate Préalpes and Alps). One passes by the collar Cross-High and Trièves, the other by the collar Bayard and the valley of Drac. The third axis connects the valley of the Durance to the Valley of Suse while passing by the collar of Montgenèvre. |
